Computer Recycling has teamed up with EnviroWaste and Global Metal Solutions to provide locals throughout Auckland with a safe and easy option for recycling old and unwanted batteries.
Five EnviroWaste Recycling & Refuse sites across Tāmaki Makaurau are now equipped with Computer Recycling battery recycling bin stations.
The Constellation Drive, Patiki Road, Pikes Point, Wiri, and Pukekohe Recycling and Refuse Transfer Stations host the three-bin options for visitors. The Computer Recycling bins allow for drop-offs of household batteries, lithium batteries and small electronic devices which include batteries - such as mobile phones, tablets, cameras, vapes and smartwatches.
“We’re pleased to align with EnviroWaste and Global Metal Solutions to provide Aucklanders with accessible battery disposal options across the supercity,” says Computer Recycling managing director Patrick Moynahan.
“This is one more positive step towards creating safe and sustainable recycling pathways for Kiwis who are looking to responsibly dispose of their unwanted tech and hazardous materials.”
The Auckland Council does not accept household alkaline batteries or lithium batteries in curb-side recycling bins, and disposing of batteries in curbside rubbish is not recommended due to the negative environmental impacts.
Once returned to Computer Recycling, the batteries are graded, sorted and exported by a Computer Recycling partner under EPA Basel Permits. These are exported to accredited overseas partners who are equipped to safely process waste of this kind.
