On May 15th we hosted our largest North Shore CR E-Day, at the Massey University Carpark in Albany.
Thanks to a great turn-out from the local community we were able to collect a massive 10,764kg of e-waste, diverting it from local landfill. With collections from more than 500 households, we recycled everything from whiteware and home appliances, to old office equipment such as network servers and printers.
Through our CR E-Day events we continue to work towards providing New Zealanders with opportunities to responsibly recycle their unwanted electronics and appliances. With no NZ-based framework for how kiwis dispose of their e-waste, these community events are integral to ensure locals are provided opportunities to dispose of their old tech in a sustainable way. Responsibly recycling e-waste ensures it does not end up piling up in local landfill - negatively impacting on surrounding environment and waterways. It also provides the opportunities for precious materials - such as copper, silver and steel - to be extracted from these items and put back into circulation.
We used the collection day to fundraise for our charity partner Variety - the Children's Charity. All charity donations made by the public during the day were matched by Computer Recycling, and therefore the event will create a donation of almost $1000 to the well deserving organisation.
